Having the voices in the head discussing this all day, one way to consider the limits of compression would be as how it is expressed by the digestive system. If compression was the purpose, that distilled little pile of fertilizer would be the goal. Yet it is the entropy. The structure being broken down and the energy stored in it radiated back out to power the body.
Then consider how energy is expressed as consciousness, as all the emotions, desires, needs propelling us on. In fact the intellect is often trailing along behind, trying to formulate some degree of logical structure to the resulting effects.
If it was truly the intellect and knowledge that ruled, where are the philosopher kings? Why isn't academia the apex of control? Why is it the military and the financial system that seems to be running the show?
Maybe if we better understood the larger dynamic, we might start to make some sense of it and actually ride that wave, not constantly tumbled by it.
I like the focus and field distinction. I’d put one guardrail around the word compression, though.
In this series, compression means something fairly specific: preserving the structure that matters while discarding variation that does not. That is narrower than saying every process that reduces, transforms, or dissipates something is compression.
That actually makes the digestive analogy interesting to me. What information or structure survives the transformation, and what is it being preserved for?

Yet a map has a clear intent and focus. The problem with making compression a generic framing device is whether the focus becomes unfocused? Or become a form of feedback loop, spiraling down a particular rabbit hole.
As Wolfram put it, you need a computer the size of the universe to compute the universe.
It would seem that once you turn the models loose, without some specificity, they do run amok.
If they break down their context, environment, then it becomes a form of cancer, breaking down its host organism.
So my question is whether we might study how compression functions in an effectively infinite context. It would seem that with stars, when they go swirling down that vortex, eventually they go nova and are scattered back across that larger context.
So gradient versus flattest line. Vertical versus horizontal. Focus versus field. Plane of the galaxy, versus quasars shooting out the poles.
All the various polarities, while our reality is all the resonances and reverberations in the middle.
Process goes past to future. Patterns go future to past.
The energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall.
The nervous system is the focus. The circulation system is the field.
Then there is the gut, processing the energy driving it all.
The Field needs to step back and not just obsess over the function of the nervous system.

We are linear, goal oriented creatures in a cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback generated reality. It's like we really haven't come to terms with the implications of the world being round, not flat.
